Commercial Illustration is the basic form of illustration in the field of graphic design. These illustrations can be very intricate or stylized to promote a product or character. This course explores the styles and techniques used in the Commercial field of Illustration as well as many artists that use them. The student will learn these types of artistic styles and techniques so they can tap into their own creativity and style to develop original graphic illustrations for publications, movie posters, and other forms of commercial advertising.
Course Outline
Module 1 | Vector and Raster images
The first week the students receive an overview and understand the differences between Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Vector and Raster images. When and how illustrators should use these two powerful software.
Module 2 | Master the Software
In this lesson students understand the purpose and the key to success in the field of design is to try and master the software to a certain degree.
Module 3 | Digital Drawing Principles
Throughout this course, students gain an awareness that it takes Time to Design something that communicates effectively to the viewer. The student begins their personal creative journey to achieve that goal through research and artistic development.
Module 4 | Adobe Illustrator
This software is called illustrator for a reason and students will explore the powerful and dynamic possibilities that this software provides. It is one of the top graphic design programs required for graphic designers.
Module 5 | Clip Art vs Original Art
In this week’s exploration, students understand many of the different types of creative ways to develop their illustrations. The students will also discover ways not to cause a dichotomy in the creation of their art.
Module 6 | Working With Lines, Fills, and Color
Students continue their creative exploration by getting familiar with Lines, Fills, and Color that provide the steps needed for the creative process.
Module 7 | Advanced Techniques
This week the student will learn how to use various masking effects and how they are created in Adobe Illustrator. They can use these techniques to their advantage to make their illustration dynamic.
Module 8 | Presentation is Everything
This final week the student will have completed their dynamic illustration for marketing. Now they will develop a portfolio presentation of all their hard work that showcases the entire creative process.
