One of the most loved by students, this course explores the Philosophy and Ideology of the field of art from a Christ-centered World View. In an open discussion with the instructor, students gain insight into the ideology of a culture and psychological avenues of the discipline, the nature of art, the creative development, the aesthetic judgment, the functions of art and their values. The Aesthetics student will understand the key arguments regarding art and the philosophy of art and how it has changed over time.

Course Outline

Module 1 | Introduction of the Arts

During this module the student explores Christian interpretations of art and the Renaissance concept of genius. The student will learn how to distinguish one “school” of art philosophy from another by style, culture, and time.

Module 2 | Comprehending the Arts

In this study, the student will be able to identify the major trends of aesthetic thought, dominant ideas and values of the various cultures or artists from the ancient to modern times and the philosophy of their art.

Module 3 | The Biblical Foundations

The student is introduced to Bezalel, a very prominent artist in Biblical times. The student will further study the works of Bezalel, the Idolatry of Aaron, and the Creation and Imitations of art.

Module 4 | Christianity and the Arts

The student will explore the development and influence of Contemporary Christian Artists, Art and the Church and the Christian interpretations of art.

Course Instructor

William Morse William Morse Course Author / Instructor

William Morse is the Chief Executive Director of Arts Atelier 146. He has taught higher education for the past 25+ years building both graphic design and animation courses around the country for colleges and universities. He has built BFA programs for universities in Kentucky, Mississippi, Kansas, and Texas. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Florence Classical Arts Academy in Florence, Italy–the partner school of Arts Atelier 146. William is a graduate from Texas A&M University with a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Art and Advertising. He has a MS (Master of Science) in Art from Texas A&M University and an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in 3D Animation & Visual Effects from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. William and his wife Dana love to travel and spend time with their three children. He loves teaching students and has helped to build Arts Atelier 146 as an industry standard art school in the state of Kentucky.

Assignments

Assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Students are recommended to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours a week reviewing lecture content and completing assignments.
